Sirens Calling
My family and I hiked the perimeter of Grand Island, north of Munising Michigan, this summer. After a 10 mile day of backpacking with two parents, four kids, and a dog, we were thirsty and ready for a hot meal. We decided to lay down our packs and trudge another two miles down the trail to the beach, hoping for a refreshing bath in Lake Superior followed by a picnic of instant cheesy mashed potatoes on the beach. To our utter dismay, the beach was infested with biting flies! You'd never know it looking at this enticing view...
